Weight cutting issues have plagued MMA for a very long time and the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) has been in the fore front of combat this tradition by bringing out certain regulations to curb excessive weight cuts.
CSAC rules state that any fighters who come in higher than 10 percent above their contracted weight class in a fight-day weight check can be recommended to move up a division in the future. CSAC weighs in the fighters on the day of the fight as well to compare the difference between the weight fighters weighed in at and their weight when they are in the cage.
A surprising fact was observed at UFC 227 that Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson and Cody ‘No Love’ Garbrandt weighed in at the same weight of 142 pounds in the cage, despite Cody fighting a whole weight class higher than Johnson. Henry Cejudo too weighed in at 141 pounds inside the cage while T.J. Dillashaw rehydrated to 149.5 pounds from his weigh in yesterday at 135 pounds.
