Mike Davis (11-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) is currently fighting in the lightweight division in the UFC, but he has been a fighter all his life—every since he was a little kid.
“Beast Boy” is fresh off a stunning 2nd round submission victory against Natan Levy at UFC Vegas 88 last Saturday, March 16th, in Las Vegas. Aside from thrashing his opponents in the Octagon, what Davis finds his knack into is videogames- something that he plans to enjoy and plans to get back to streaming video games until his next fight approaches.
Mike Davis recalls his bullied days as a child, and his escape was Halo
Interestingly, video games are nothing new to Davis it is what helped him to cope up with the incessant amount of bullying he had to endure in his childhood. Speaking to the media at the post-fight press conference, Davis revealed that it was specifically ‘Halo’ that saved him as a kid.
“I like The Last of Us, but the game that saved my life was ‘Halo,’” said Davis. “When I grew up as a kid – I’m from upstate New York. As you can probably guess, there’s not a lot of Black people, so I got picked on a lot. I was also really small, like a tiny child. So, I got stuffed in lockers, called names, got picked up and put in the basketball – bro, I got picked on.”
“What saved my life was after school, I would go home, I would turn on the Xbox that I was gifted from my Mom – it was amazing. She worked hard to get it, and I got ‘Halo,’” he went on, “I met friends. I met friends in the area, I met friends across the globe. Every day, the only thing that made me want to keep going was to jump on Halo and play with my friends.” [H/T MMA Junkie]
