Indian Boxing star Nutlai Lalbiakkima to fight for IBA International title in April

In just his second fight Mizoram’s Nutlai Lalbiakkima will be fighting for the IBA International title scheduled to take place in Mumbai in April 2021.

The 24-year old boxing sensation from Mizoram, Nutlai Lalbiakkima successfully made his professional debut last year in the light flyweight division following a first-round TKO victory.

Nutlai is signed to Marine Pro Boxing promotions and is promoted by Devraj Das will fight for a title of a major organisation in just his second professional fight.

Nutlai also had a terrific amateur pedigree as he vanquished Olympic champion Hasanboy Dusmatov and reached the 49kg semifinals of the President’s Cup tournament in Astana, Kazakhstan. Lalbiakkima belongs to a humble family. His mother takes care of the family by selling fish in the local market as his father is asthmatic Lalbiakkima was exposed to boxing for the first time in a Pro-boxing tournament in 2009.

Also present in the card is Vimal Punera who will be fighting for IBA Asia title and will serve as the co-main event.

Vice-President of International Boxing Association (IBA) Stephane Cabrera said “IBA is going huge time into the Indian territory & will be the 1st in history to host an IBA Title Fight in the business capital of India – Mumbai. IBA has notable champions who have strapped the belts across their waist including Floyd Mayweather, Oscar De La Hoya, Sergey Kovalev, Roy Jones Jr & many legends”.

Nutlai Lalbiakkima: India’s first world champion?

Promoter Devraj Das also gave a statement on the upcoming event and is confident that Nutlai will be India’s first-ever World Champion in pro boxing.

Nutlai Lalbiakkima created history in Amateur boxing by beating world no.1 boxer back in 2018, this time we will create history in professional boxing & deliver India its 1st World Champion before we wrap 2021. Vimal Punera on the other hand is already leading his weight division & he has immense potential to be the next champion by 2022. This time we make sure our show is produced on a grand scale while we Livestream to 25 countries who will witness a new era in Indian pro boxing”.
