Combate Americas, a Mixed Martial arts organization aimed primarily at Hispanic American and Latino audiences delivered knockout ratings and viewership. Last Friday night’s telecast of “Estrellas I” on Univision beat Bellator 197 on Paramount, to the tune of 583,000 total viewers, including 296,000 in the 18-49-year-old category. And the fight was also streamed on Combate Americas Facebook page and was watched by  261,000 and  4 million viewers were watching the fights in Mexico.

In an interview with MMA Mania Co-founder of UFC and founder of Combate Americas Campbell McLaren said,” We are clearly the No. 2 U.S. promotion and coming after No. 1[UFC]. We already beat UFC in Spain and Mexico. Estrellas did one-third of UFC at its top rating at 8-9:00 pm and we nearly matched their last hour. Typically, Spanish is 15 percent of the general market and we were 30 percent of UFC. And they were in prime time.”

Expressing his happiness Campbell went to Twitter to congratulate the Combate Americas team.

All these ratings and viewership surge for Combate Americas is a bad news for Bellator and it’s ratings have continuously declined over the months. The Friday night show for Bellator delivered disappointing ratings.

Bellator was simulcast on both Paramount and CMT, and averaged 403,000 viewers, broken down as 242,000 on Paramount and 161,000 on CMT. No previous Paramount broadcast had ever done less than 394,000 viewers.

The show was headlined by Michael Chandler’s first-round win over Brandon Girtz. Michael is the biggest star in Bellator right now which makes it even more disappointing for Bellator’s low viewership numbers.

While Univision is a much higher-rated station than Paramount or CMT, and thus it doing better shouldn’t be that big of a surprise, it did so with a show that started at midnight, a far worse time slot, and was headlined by Jose Alday, pretty much an unknown, winning a split decision over John Castaneda.
