Irish superstar Conor McGregor has been making headlines recently due to a toe injury that forced him to withdraw from UFC 303. Dr. David Abbasi, an MMA doctor, sheds light on the implications of this injury and shares insights into McGregor’s recovery timeline.
McGregor broke his toe ahead of his scheduled fight against Michael Chandler. The injury occurred during training, and it raised questions about how it might affect his performance in the octagon.
MMA Doctor Dr. Abbasi Opens up on Conor MCGregor’s Injury
According to Dr. Abbasi, Conor McGregor will need approximately four weeks to recover from this type of toe break. Most bony fractures in younger, healthy individuals take about that long to heal. However, the impact on McGregor’s fighting abilities is crucial.
“This would take about four weeks to heal as do most bony fracture injuries in somebody younger and healthy. This would affect a fighter’s ability to put weight on their toes and put their weight forward. You could put weight backwards on the heel and some fighters have pushed through and fought with something like this but this would definitely affect somebody’s explosiveness and especially kicking.” Dr Abbasi said.
“This would definitely hurt the kicking ability on both sides because of the inability to use your forefoot. Push kicks, forget about it. So, if this was in fact the injury, I think we do have a legitimate reason to delay the fight.”
Given the severity of the injury, Dr. Abbasi believes that Conor McGregor had a legitimate reason to delay the fight. The broken toe significantly impacts his fighting capabilities, making it wise to prioritize recovery.
Conor McGregor’s toe break is a setback, but with proper healing and rehabilitation, he can return stronger. Fans eagerly await his comeback, hoping to see the Irishman back in action soon.
