Ahead of this high-profile showdown, the MMA India Show managed to catch up with Arjan for an exclusive interview where he talked about a string of topics including the possibility of a UFC event in India.

Arjan said that he has been pushing the UFC for the same and added that India already has the base which is required.

“I’m telling them that India is ready. We need an event. They can’t do a TUF show and then an event, they need to do an event first so people like the future Vijender Singhs, the boxers, the Sushil Kumars, the wrestlers, and they can understand that MMA is an option that they can consider. They can feel that it’s real, it’s in our backyard. Rather than staying in boxing and wrestling. That’s what helps in America. The wrestlers get into that and that’s the feeding system. And India has a long history of Akhada and boxing now. That’s what’s going to feed into this,” He said.

The Major Hurdle

The 31-year-old, who became the first fighter of Indian origin to fight in the UFC last year, also pointed out a major problem that’s acting as a hurdle in bringing UFC to India.

“They don’t have Indians in the executive. So you have people that don’t have a pulse on the country making the decisions so their eyes need to be open. They need to understand that these are the facts and these are the feelings and after this fight, I’ll be up there trying to do that.” He added.

While concluding the topic, Arjan once again stressed the importance of having an event in India in order to establish an end goal for the fighters.

“You need to have that event to establish that end goal and to make people understand why they need to get into the sport and how do they get there. They obviously need high level training. You have the base in India with the wrestling, you have boxing. And the work that needs to be done is in mixing them. The cases I believe that are missing in India are one: high level athletes choosing MMA. And number two, trainers that are effective to help the fighters to mix these. And the whole seminars, the UFC gyms that is coming in will help this,”
