Speaking to Chamatkar Sandhu of MMA India Show in the UFC Gym media day, former UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping opened up on a variety of topics including his retirement fight, opening up gyms in England and, of course, arch-nemesis Luke Rockhold.

He also strongly put forth his desire to have his final fight – should he even fight again – in the UK.

The Englishman also outlined that a fight against Rashad Evans at UFC London almost materialized, only falling through because acceptable financial terms couldn’t be reached with the UFC, before conceding that he may have even moved up to Light Heavyweight for the fight.

Michael Bisping last fought in UFC Fight Night Shangai, and was knocked out brutally by up and comer Kelvin Gastelum in the first round. Prior to that fight, he had surrendered the UFC Middleweight Championship to a returning Georges St-Pierre.

Now 39, he is on the look out for the perfect opponent and platform so that he can gracefully tie up his career and retire ; and contrary to the back and forth we see unfolding between the two men, that opponent isn’t Luke Rockhold – yet.

Although Rockhold has been publicly urging Michael Bisping to sign the contract, the Englishman shoots down the notion that there even is one.

And despite professing his desire to punch Rockhold in the face again – in vintage Bisping fashion – he isn’t willing to commit to that fight just yet.

According to Bisping, he wants to be a part of a fight so that he can respectfully exit the sport, and as far as he is concerned, the heated rivalry he shares with Luke Rockhold hardly allows him to keep his emotions in check.

Veering away from the usual questions, a few fighters involved in UFC London were asked what was the one word that came to mind when they thought of Michael Bisping. And barring Kajan Johnson – who said ‘di*khead’ repeatedly – pretty much all of the others were effusive in their praise of the resilient Englishman.

And, finally, when Bisping was asked to sum himself up in one word, he shot back with a cheeky grin – ‘misunderstood’.
