Karolina Kowalkiewicz has a date with Felice Herrig this weekend at UFC 223. The strawweight contest is one of the most interesting offerings that UFC has on their preliminary card and both Karolina and her opponent Herrig have a lot to lose and gain.

Karolina will fight Felice Herrig this weekend at UFC 223 (PC: Zimbio)

With a professional record of 11-2 to her name, Karolina comes into the fight at UFC 223 on the back of a victory against Jodie Esquibel at UFC Fight Night 118. It was a unanimous decision victory for the Polish fighter and prior to this, she was struggling with two back to back defeats against Claudia Gadelha and former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

A win against Herrig is crucial for Karolina as it would once again put her back into the spotlight. Though this is a high-profile fight, Karolina admits that she barely knows her opponent.

Karolina: I don’t know her, but I think she is a great athlete, she is physically strong and I am happy to be matched up with her.

And once the deal with Herrig is settled on Saturday night, the 32-year-old is open about the possibility of fighting anyone. Then again, she is least concerned about that now and has her focus completely on her fight at UFC 223.

Karolina: I am only focussed on Felice, after that fight I will think about what is next. After Felice, I could fight anyone, Rose, Joanna, Jessica Andrade, it doesn’t matter.

At 32, Karolina might still have plenty more years ahead of her, but once she is done the fighting, she has a clear cut plan on what she wants to do.

Karolina: I think when I stop participating in MMA I want to start a family, have babies and all that good stuff.

Herrig, meanwhile, is coming into the fight at UFC 223 on a four-fight winning streak. Her last defeat came back against Paige Van Zant in 2015. Just like the case with Karolina, Herrig is also determined to get a win and push her case for a title shot next.

UFC 223 will be live and exclusive on 8th April 2018 7:30 am on SONY ESPN SD & SONY ESPN HD
