The Indian MMA fans were shocked to learn last day that Bharat Kandare was out of his UFC 227 fight. Bharat, who became the first Indian-born fighter to fight in the UFC, was scheduled to have his second fight in the promotion at UFC 227.
Bharat was pitted up against China’s Wuliji Buren at the event but unfortunately, the fight fell through. The Indian was subsequently replaced by Marlon Vera of Ecuador. The exact reason why Bharat pulled out of the fight was a mystery. Now, Bharat’s manager and the founder of Superhuman Gym, Somesh Kamra has revealed the details to MMA India Show through an exclusive statement.
Somesh revealed that Bharat suffered an injury while training in Singapore.
Somesh Kamra: He had an ACL tear while training at Fight G in Singapore. We took a couple of doctors consultation. Whilst Bharat wanted to fight, the doctors said it’s risky and will hamper his future fighting career.
He went on to add that the team was confident of a win and further stated that Bharat will require a surgery.
Somesh Kamra: Bharat was moving well and we were certain on the W. But things happen. He may need an operation.
Though there is no clear timeline on when Bharat might return, Somesh assumes that it might need three to five months.
Somesh Kamra: [we cannot say the exact timeline] Not till we get 2 surgeons to give an opinion. I’m assuming 3-5 months including rehab.
Bharat made his UFC debut back at UFC Shanghai last year where he suffered a stoppage defeat. The Indian MMA fans were eagerly waiting to see Bharat back inside the Octagon and apparently, everyone will have to wait a bit longer.
