NXT Takeover: New Orleans was a phenomenal show that WrestleMania 34 will find hard to follow. The show saw new champions being crowned and history being made, not once, but multiple times.

Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa tore the house down at last night’s show

 

Here are the highlights from last night’s phenomenal NXT Takeover:

  • The ladder match to crown the first ever NXT North American Champion opened the show. EC3, Killian Dain, Lars Sullivan, Ricochet, Velveteen Dream and Adam Cole all made their way to the ring.
  • Adam Cole def. EC3, Ricochet, Killian Dain, Velveteen Dream and Lars Sullivan to become the first ever NXT North American Champion.
  • Shayna Baszler def. Ember Moon to become the NEW NXT Women’s Champion. The match ended when Shayna caught ember in a rear-naked choke.
  • The Authors of Pain, Pete Dunne and Roderick Strong and NXT Tag Team Champions, Adam Cole and Roderick Strong all made their entrances for the Tag Team Championship match.
  • Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly def. Authors of Pain and Roderick Strong and Pete Dunne after Roderick Strong turned on Pete Dunne and helped O’Reilly get the win. After the match, Roderick Strong accepted the Undisputed Era wristband and officially joined the Undisputed Era.
  • Aleister Black and the NXT Champion, Andrade “Cien” Almas with Zelina Vega made their way to the ring for the NXT Championship match.
  • Aleister Black def. Andrade “Cien” Almas to become the NEW NXT Champion. Throughout the match, Zelina Vega tried to cost Black the match a number of times. However, in the end, Black was able to use Vega’s antics against her and ended up getting the win.
  • Tommaso Ciampa made his way to the ring to massive jeers. The heat in the arena for Ciampa was amusing. Next, Johnny Gargano walked out to massive chants of “Johnny Wrestling”.
  • This match ended up being absolutely brutal and it saw both men putting each other through various kinds of punishments.
  • Johnny Gargano def. Tommaso Ciampa by making him tap out to an STF Submission on his injured knee and his knee brace used to put the pressure on his face. After the match, Candice LeRae ran down to the ring to celebrate with her husband who is now re-instated into NXT.
