Myanmar’s greatest martial arts icon and former ONE Middleweight and Light Heavyweight MMA World Champion Aung La N Sang will bring the curtain down on his legendary career.
He will face former ONE Welterweight MMA World Champion Zebaztian Kadestam in a middleweight fight at ONE Fight Night 36 on 4 October at Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium.
The 40-year-old former two-division ONE World Champion has chosen the perfect stage for his farewell performance, competing at one of combat sports’ most historic venues.
Since making his professional debut in 2005, Aung La N Sang has become Myanmar’s biggest sports icon and one of ONE Championship’s most legendary figures.
Now residing in the United States, Aung La N Sang faces the 34-year-old Swedish striker Kadestam, who brings his own elite credentials as a former welterweight king making his middleweight debut.
The decision to retire stems from his desire to prioritize family and the next generation of fighters.
“My kids are getting older, and I gotta put time into my kids and the next generation. I’ve been coaching a lot too, so I’m gonna do the right thing,” the veteran fighter explained.
Despite the finality of the moment, Aung La N Sang approaches his farewell fight with genuine excitement about performing at Lumpinee Stadium.
“I’m very excited. I wanted this, and I imagined this. I dreamed this, and it’s happening, so it’s going to mean the world to me to put on a great show in Lumpinee [Stadium],” he revealed.
His post-fighting plans include opening Python MMA in Lake Worth, Florida, where he’ll focus on developing young talent.
“It’s gonna be an MMA gym. It’s gonna be something that I’m passionate about, and it’s gonna be focused toward the next generation. I’m already training my son and my nephew, and their friends, and they’re doing really good,” he said.
