Summed up in a video by Youtube MMA news aggregator MMA digest, VanZant had this to say about the incident in an excerpt from her book.

‘Now I’m lying on my back on a bare mattress that’s on the floor, looking up at the ceiling, where hulking shadows move around me in ways I don’t quite understand. I’m being held down, shoulders pinned into submission.

Someone is taking my pants off, and then my underwear. Someone is playing the guitar, its normally sweet sounds the soundtrack of my nightmare.

There is a bustle around me, and then on me, a living massiveness holding me down. There is a constant pressure on my wrists and thighs. I feel a hot breath close to my face, and perspiration on my skin which I can tell isn’t my own.’

“It’s my turn,” says another voice, drunk with equal parts substances and a disconcerting eagerness. They move me around. They change my position. I fail each time I try to resist.

The video also narrates how VanZant reveals that she was under the influence of alcohol and at a friend’s place on Halloween night in 2008, when the incident took place.

She also goes on to detail how her real name, Paige Sletten, was twisted into Paige Slutton when rumours began circulating around school that she slept with 4 guys on the same night, prompting her to officially change her name to Paige VanZant.

Paige also described her attempted suicide in the book, saying that the horrific events of Halloween 2008 drove her to ingesting a full bottle of pills.

I open the faucet and start swallowing huge batches of pills, following each batch with a giant chug of water, surprising myself with how fast they go down. I do four of five rounds of this until I have swallowed every pill in the bottle.

…I wake up in the shower, covered in chunks of brown, pill-laden vomit.
