UFC women’s flyweight contender Montana De La Rosa is high as a kite for her upcoming clash against Maycee Barber at UFC Vegas 52 this weekend, a fight that was originally slated to take place at UFC 269 last year but De La Rosa had to pull out of the bout due to injury. This time around, she is ready to prove her worth in the Octagon.
Montana De La Rosa wants to show she’s “better everywhere” against Maycee Barber
Last year, Montana De La Rosa vs Maycee Barber was added to the undercard of UFC 269 which took place on 11th December. However, in October, De La Rosa was forced to withdraw from the fight due to an “undisclosed injury” and was replaced by Erin Blanchfield. In turn, Barber also pulled out from the fight in November.
Since then, rebooking the fight against Barber had been at the top of De La Rosa’s wishlist and speaking to Just Scrap Radio on BJPENN.com, she revealed that she nodded right away after being approached to rebook the fight for UFC Vegas 52, set to take place on 23rd April at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
“I’m super pumped, right when they gave me the option for it, I was like ‘yeah we might as well rebook it.’” said De La Rosa, “There is no point in trying to find another person, she has been wanting to fight me, and I’ve been wanting to fight her just as much so it will be a really entertaining fight.”
A former Xtreme Fighting League (XFN) flyweight champion, De La Rosa is well aware of the fact that Barber, who is the 14th ranked female flyweight fighter in the UFC, will be high on the offensive when they meet in the cage, but “Monty” wants to display her own skillset on the fight day, as she claims herself to have the advantage in range, length and grappling skills.
“I know she comes with a lot of aggression, I think she will come at me really hard and I’m excited to showcase all my skills and put on an entertaining fight,” the 27-year-old went on, “Just show my striking game and show I’m better everywhere… I think I have the range on her, I’m the longer fighter and I think my wrestling is better.”
“You never know what to expect with this fight, could be a finish, could be a long three rounds. We are both durable, we both haven’t been finished too much, it will be exciting. It is really exciting because she is so well-known, it will help me take some of her hype and get my name in people’s mouths more and hopefully take her number as well,” added De La Rosa.
