UFC Fight Night: Volkan vs. Smith, a.k.a UFC Fight Night 138 is finally in the books now. It will surely be a huge understatement to say that it was one of the most exciting and entertaining Fight Night events we have seen this year. In the main event of the card, was a light heavyweight bout between two top contenders, Volkan Oezdemir and Anthony ‘Lionheart’ Smith. Coming into the fight, Smith was on a two fight win streak, having finished two former light heavyweight champions via impressive knockouts in the very first round itself. However, Oezdemir presented a very severe and different challenge. Nonetheless, Smith extended his win streak as he submitted Oezdemir in the third round via a rear-naked choke. However, what’s even more interesting is the fact that Smith had mystically predicted his of Victory over Volkan about a week ago.
Oezdemir was arguably leading the fight on the scorecards before the third round began and was seemingly cruising to a dominant yet competitive victory. However, Smith had some plans, as the Swede began to tire and slow down, Smith sensed his opportunity and went for the finish.
About a week ago, in an interview with MMA Fighting’s senior editor, Shaheen Al-Shatti, Smith had predicted that he might start the fight on the back-foot but was confident that Oezdemir will begin to tire after the first or second round and then he will turn the tables on him to get a sneaky come-from-behind victory. After his victory, Al-Shatti took to Twitter and recalled how Smith had predicted his victory. Here’s what he tweeted:
Man, Anthony Smith called his shot. This is what he told me this week about how things were going to go down at #UFCMoncton. Right down to the come-from-behind R3 finish. Beast. pic.twitter.com/LXzz2cshaQ
