UFC welterweight stalwart Nate Diaz still has hopes for a trilogy fight with former adversary Conor McGregor, and believes the fight will definitely happen at some point in due course of time.

Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor 3: Real Fight Inc will be involved says Diaz

Despite having six years passed, the two-fight saga between Diaz and McGregor remains one of the most popular in UFC history. The two faced off for the first time at UFC 196 in March 2016 in which Diaz handed McGregor his first promotional defeat. The two returned for a rematch at UFC 2020 later in August 2016 and this time, ‘The Notorious’ turned the tables and defeated the Stockton superstar.

Since then, the two have gone separate ways but a third encounter between two fan favourites in the sport remained on the hotlist of mixed martial arts fans. Both Diaz and McGregor are currently on a two fight losing streak and the latter is slated for an “unfair” contest against Khamzat Chimaev this weekend at UFC 279.

Speaking to Inside Fighting, Diaz shed some light on the possibility of Diaz vs McGregor 3, stating that while now isn’t the perfect time, but the trilogy will definitely happen at some time in future.

“The timing’s not on right now. We’ll worry about that later. It’s for sure going to happen at some point,” said Diaz, “Yeah, at some point. He needs to get back on what he’s got to do, whatever that is. It’s like, when we match up, we’re going to match up. But we ain’t going nowhere.”

Diaz is fighting out of his UFC contract against Borz this Saturday night and the 37-year-old, who recently launched his own combat sports promotion Real Fight Inc., says the trilogy may not happen in the UFC after all and his promotion will take care of it.

“Whatever with it or whatever I’m going to do, Real Fight Inc. is going to be involved,” Diaz added. [H/T BJPenn.com]
