As expected, Nate Diaz didn’t stay silent for long in regards to how Saturday’s lightweight headliner went down in Abu Dhabi. In the main event of UFC 257, Dustin Poirier avenged his UFC 178 knockout loss to Conor McGregor with a spectacular finish of his own to cap off the promotion’s third trip to Fight Island in 2021. “The Diamond” stopped McGregor in the second round to pick up the biggest win of his career and likely set himself up for a lightweight championship opportunity.

Diaz, who became the first to finish McGregor in the UFC at UFC 196, took to Twitter on Sunday to give his quick reaction to McGregor’s first KO loss in the promotion.

A fight between Poirier and Diaz would be an absolute blockbuster pay-per-view for the UFC. As soon as Diaz took to his Twitter to make the call out of Poirier, fans went crazy and started telling him how much they wanted to see him fight. Dustin Poirier pulled off a massive upset on Saturday night at UFC 257 when he finished Conor McGregor in the second round of their rematch bout, making him the first person to ever TKO the Irish superstar.

The win puts him in a pretty great position: UFC president Dana White has already confirmed he could fight for the UFC lightweight title next. There’s also a big-money rematch with Conor McGregor, should he prefer that option. And then there’s Nate Diaz, who Poirier included in the list of guys he’d like to punch in the face.

“A rematch with Conor interests me,” he said at the UFC 257 post-fight press conference. “Always wanted to whup Nate Diaz’s ass. What interests me. I’m sure something will make sense but just right now I don’t know. I and Conor are 1-1. Nate Diaz likes to talk a lot of s**t online. But I just got to go home and we’ll see.”

Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier were previously scheduled to fight each other at UFC 230. The fight was scheduled to take place at the Madison Square Garden. Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier even took to Twitter to announce that the fight was for the inaugural 165lbs title.

However, the fight fell through and UFC president Dana White’s later said that he wasn’t going to add a 165-lbs weight division.

“It’s never going to change,” he said in 2017, per Mike Bohn of MMAjunkie. “You’re still going to have people trying to—let’s say I add a 165-pound weight class. That will only mean bigger guys will try to make 165. Everybody’s always looking for an advantage.”
