An hour ago Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier tweeted out that they both will be headlining UFC 230 which will take place at the Madison Square Garden in New York on Nov.3 for the inaugural 165-pound title.
Well, it looks like that’s not the case after all, as according to Brett Okamoto of ESPN, UFC president Dana White has denied any plans of a 165-pound title.
Just spoke to Dana White on the phone, he denied any plans of a 165-pound title fight at Madison Square Garden. Says he’s still working on a main event for UFC 230.

However, Brett Okamoto also reached Nate Diaz, and he said he indeed is fighting for the 165-pound title.
I reached Nate Diaz (@NateDiaz209) via text.
His only comment: “I’m fighting for that main event 165lb title.”

165-pound title or not, both Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier going to fight each other at UFC 230 either way and it might be difficult for the UFC to ignore the demand for a new weight class. The addition of a 165-pound title is a no-brainer either way.
Other fights on the undercard include a middleweight rematch bout between former champions Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman.
