UFC welterweight Nick Diaz has been offered a fight by the UFC against his former opponent Robbie Lawler and the bout is targeted for UFC 266 which takes place in September.
In his last fight in the UFC, Diaz faced Anderson Silva in 2015 at UFC 183. He lost the fight by unanimous decision. A few days after the fight, the UFC revealed that Diaz had once again failed his post-fight drug test for marijuana metabolites, and Silva tested positive on January 9 for several performance-enhancing drugs. In September 2015, the Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended Diaz for five years and fined him $165,000 following his failed drug test of marijuana metabolites at UFC 183. In 2020, Diaz’s manager announced that his client is back in UFC’s testing pools and is looking for fights.
Nick was then seen attending the UFC 261 which was the first event with a full crowd since the pandemic. After the event, Dana White said he will be having a conversation with Nick and they will discuss his future in this fighting game. After the meeting with Nick, Dana White said he feels Diaz will fight again but he still has many doubts.
“It went good,” White told ESPN. “My whole thing with Nick Diaz is I just question how bad he really wants to fight. We got together, we had a great conversation, talked about a possible comeback for him, I just don’t know. We’ll see how it plays out this summer and the rest of this year.”
But recently Dana White said that all his doubts regarding Diaz are clear and they are looking for some amazing fights.
“I wasn’t very high on it. I didn’t think that it would happen, but it looks like it will,” White told Farah Hannoun.
“You never hear me say that, ever,” White joked. “You say, ‘Do you think Nick Diaz will fight this year?,’ and ‘absolutely, positively not’ is what I usually say.”
“The matchmakers have (spoken to Diaz) and I don’t know where we’re at on it, but it’s looking promising,” White said.
