Yesterday the disheartening news for MMA fans came up as former double champ Georges St-Pierre is expected to retire.

St-Pierre, 37, is scheduled to announce his retirement on Thursday at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Reportedly, the primary reason for his retirement is said to be failure in negotiations for a fight against lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Nurmagomedov however, himself being a fan of St-Pierre, does not want to become the reason for his retirement. Nurmagomedov wasted no time to take to Instagram, and showed willingness to fight St-Pierre. He also outlined a location to do so.

“Let’s do it in November,” Nurmagomedov wrote on his official Instagram account. “After this fight you can retire. I grow up on your fights, and have nothing but respect for you, and I believe showed that to you George when you were in Moscow.

“But, it would be honor for me to share Octagon with one of the greatest fighters of all time.”

Nurmagomedov was handed a nine-month suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission due to his participation in the infamous UFC 229 post-fight brawl. Nurmagomedov has  been eyeing the Madison Square Gardens for a big fight.

St-Pierre reacted to Nurmagomedov’s message.

“I saw what Khabib wrote, and I appreciate it very much,” he told ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, via Twitter. “Unfortunately, these decisions aren’t up to us. I will address everything at the press conference tomorrow.

St-Pierre last fought at UFC 217 in November 2017 against then champion Michael Bisping for the middleweight belt. St-Pierre shocked the world by submitting Bisping to become the fourth fighter to hold belts in two different weight classes.
