The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) came under the spotlight last week for pulling Jessica Aguilar from UFC Utica.
Aguilar’s chapped lips were pointed out as the apparent reason for the fight cancellation much to the surprise of everyone. Aguilar recently went on social media and expressed her frustration regarding the whole situation as well. Now, NYSAC has come out a statement about their actions.
The commission noted that they pulled Aguilar from the UFC due to a potentially contagious medical condition.
“Medical personnel identified a potentially contagious medical condition. For the safety of the impacted fighter and her opponent, the fight was called off. UFC medical personnel were also consulted and concurred with the decision,” The statement noted.
Aguilar’s manager, meanwhile, reiterated the story that Aguilar told. He also told that UFC will be taking care of Aguilar financially for the fight cancellation. This is the second straight fight cancellation for Aguilar and she is still in search for her first win in the UFC.
