Arjan Bhullar has conceded a disappointing defeat at the hands of Amir Aliakbari and the outcome was not fans had expected. Amir went all-out attacking and showcased his power. Ultimately, it helped him prevail over Arjan Bhullar at ONE 166: Qatar on Friday, March 1.
Arjan Bhullar faced DQ loss
It was a neck-to-neck battle between the two heavyweights at the Lusail Sports Arena but it didn’t live up to the enormous expectations of the fans. It was billed as an exciting heavyweight MMA match since both had the one-shot power and grappling skill that could change the fight instantly.
Arjan Bhullar, who is former world champion couldn’t match the speed or power of the Iranian fighter and was mostly fighting defensively. Because of this inactivity, referee Herb Dean was compelled to give Bhullar two yellow cards in the second round.
It was noted that Arjan Bhullar seemed unwilling to trade strike against Aliakbari and on the contrary, the Iranian fighter was all out attacking and willing to close the distance. However, before the fight was officially stopped in the third and final round, the Iranian Hulk launched a strong combination that rocked his Indian opponent, which caused him to stay on the backfoot.
Herb Dean kept on alerting him to engage in the fight but Bhullar continued to play on the defense and the popular ref decided to call the stoppage in the dying seconds of the bout, showing him the red card. It resulted in Bhullar conceding a DQ loss.
With this win, Amir Aliakbari has now tallied his fourth straight victory and it seems that he has earned his shot at the ONE heavyweight MMA world championship, held by Anatoly Malykhin. Meanwhile, Bhullar has suffered consecutive and has a 2-2 record under ONE Championship.
