Japan’s iconic Saitama Super Arena played host to a monumental night of fights as ONE 172: Takeru vs. Rodtang took over “The Land of the Rising Sun” on Sunday, March 23.
The evening’s historic headliner saw former ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon annihilate three-division K-1 Champion Takeru Segawa with one punch in the first round of their flyweight kickboxing super-fight.
The Thai legend rose to the occasion immediately, wasting no time in gunning for the kill. He put Takeru on the back foot before landing a huge looping left hook that wobbled his Japanese counterpart.
“The Iron Man” then used his iron fist to deliver another whopping left hook that sent Takeru down to the mat and unable to answer the referee’s count, ending the highly anticipated contest at 1:20 of round one.
Before that, Masaaki Noiri clinched the ONE Interim Featherweight Kickboxing World Title after scoring a third-round knockout against featherweight Muay Thai overlord Tawanchai PK Saenchai, setting up a huge unification clash with reigning king Superbon.
Elsewhere, Yuya Wakamatsu made good on his second chance to claim the ONE Flyweight MMA World Championship. He wrecked former king Adriano Moraes at 3:39 of round one to claim the division’s vacant gold.
Also, Jonathan Di Bella claimed the ONE Interim Strawweight Kickboxing World Title after he put on a striking clinic against former two-division ONE World Champion Sam-A Gaiyanghadao across five rounds to earn the unanimous decision.
ONE Women’s Atomweight Kickboxing World Champion Phetjeeja also retained her crown by unanimous decision after outworking Kana Morimoto in a five-round clinic.
