Demetrious Johnson recently shared his thoughts on the upcoming clash between ONE flyweight Muay Thai Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon and former three-weight K-1 kickboxing champion Takeru Segawa in a five-round super fight at ONE 165 on January 28, 2024.

The fight was recently announced by ONE Championship on November 30. Notably, the co-main event features the return of Sage Northcutt, taking on MMA legend Shinya Aoki.

The match is billed as a “flyweight kickboxing super fight” and none of the championship belts will be up for grabs. It’s worth noting that as it’s kickboxing, no elbows will be allowed and restrictions will be imposed on clinching.

Demetrious Johnson feels Rodtang will have a disadvantage

Demetrious Johnson recently stated that while the match will be a ‘banger,’ it’s a disadvantage for Rodtang and no elbows are allowed in the bout. He said:

“It’s gonna be a banger. But it’s bad that Rodatang can’t use his best weapons – his elbows and 4 oz Gloves.”

Takru is making his One Championship Debut

This will be Takeru’s promotional debut fight for ONE Championship after he was on the sidelines for more than six months since being signed.

Meanwhile, this will mark Rodtang’s seventeenth appearance under the ONE banner. “The Iron Man,” currently has an outstanding ONE record of 14-2, with his only losses coming against Superlek and Demetrious Johnson in a mixed-rules bout. His full Muay Thai record is remains as a remarkable 271-43-10.

ONE 165 is scheduled to be ONE’s first numbered event of 2024 and it will mark their highly-anticipated comeback to Japan after a four-year hiatus since 2019. Further details regarding the fight card, broadcast schedule, or streaming platforms are yet to be disclosed.

The headlining bout is kickboxing. However, ONE is promising to shift its focus to MMA in 2024. Thereby, the fans could expect a stacked lineup for the massive event.
