ONE Championship returned to Bangkok, Thailand’s Lumpinee Stadium once more with another edition of the hottest weekly series in combat sports.
ONE Friday Fights 109 offered up 11 bouts across Muay Thai, kickboxing, and MMA disciplines – including the debuts of hot new Japanese arrivals Kaito and former K-1 Champion Yuki Yoza.
But it was the main event that stole the show.
Thai favorite Yod-IQ Pimolsri pick up his seventh win in a row as he outlasted returning star Brice Delval in an action-packed bantamweight Muay Thai affair.
Delval got the better of his striking partner in the early stages. He remained on Yod-IQ’s tail from the first bell, hitting him with sharp right hands to nullify the Thai’s offence.
But Yod-IQ revised his plan between rounds, coming back with a much stronger version in the second stanza to put “The Truck” on the backfoot. Not long after, his reformed output forced Delval’s eye to swell after slicing elbows and heavy punches.
It was anyone’s to take in the final frame. And typically, Yod-IQ continued to grow with every exchange. Meanwhile Delval continued to give chase. But ultimately, Yod-IQ’s resurgence and resilience enabled him to pick up the unanimous decision.
Elsewhere, Italy’s Alessio Malatesta earned his third stoppage of the weekly series as he thwarted Kampeetewada Sitthikul with a second-round knockout in bantamweight Muay Thai to also return to winning ways.
In typical aggressive fashion, Malatesta stormed his Thai counterpart. He quickly let loose with a barrage of leg kicks and punches throughout the first three minutes to remain in control.
Malatesta stuck to his game plan in round two as he clipped his foe with a huge left hook. Following on, he let loose with his full arsenal to find the finish with Kampeetewada turtling up against the ropes. The tall Thai absorbed as much damage as he could, but he fell at 2:28 of the second round.
