September 19 brought another chapter of martial arts action to Lumpinee Stadium as ONE Friday Fights 125 featured 12 fights across Muay Thai and MMA. The weekly series continued discovering future stars, with fighters chasing coveted US$100,000 contracts.
Russian striker Elbrus “The Samurai” Osmanov made his Muay Thai debut pay dividends against veteran Saemapetch Fairtex. The bantamweight clash turned into a masterclass of timing and power, with Osmanov dropping his Thai opponent twice for a unanimous decision victory.
Both men came forward throwing heat in early exchanges. The turning point arrived in round two when Osmanov’s high kick missed but his follow-up three-punch sequence ended with a right hand that sent Saemapetch down for the first eight-count.
Round three saw Saemapetch’s left high kick find its mark, momentarily stunning Osmanov. But the Russian responded with surgical elbows and a crushing uppercut that dropped Saemapetch for the second time, sealing the unanimous decision victory. The judges’ scorecards reflected a comprehensive win that pushed Osmanov’s record to 14-1.
Former Rajadamnern Stadium World Champion Kongchai Chanaidonmueang reminded everyone why he once held gold with his systematic dismantling of Brazilian Walter “Iron Hands” Goncalves in strawweight action.
From the opening bell, Kongchai established his game plan with left kicks that chopped away at Goncalves’ foundation. The middle round brought increased intensity as knees and elbows entered the equation while Goncalves showed heart, refusing to wilt under pressure.
The final round belonged to Kongchai. He surged forward with renewed aggression, his cleaner clinch work proving decisive. All three judges saw the same fight, awarding Kongchai the unanimous decision and improving his record to 76-16.
