Khabib Nurmagomedov had a special day recently. No, not the UFC 229 victory where he made Conor McGregor submit, although that was a special day as well. No, this moment was special at a much more personal level. He was generous enough to share with his fans and the world on his Instagram page, a special moment when he handed his UFC Titles to his grandfather.
At UFC 229, Khabib Nurmagomedov put his UFC Lightweight Title on the line for the first time in his career. It was not an ordinary opponent that he faced on that day, ‘The Notorious One’ himself, Conor McGregor. The fight had a huge build-up as this was the first time that Conor would enter the Octagon since defeating Eddie Alvarez for the UFC Lightweight Title two years back.
The two did not have a calm and dignified rivalry, with a broken bus window and injuries left in their wake. With Conor employing his usual level of smack talk to intimidate Khabib, the night of the fight finally came along. When it did, Khabib was the one who ended up winning the title after making Conor submit. It was a big night for him, although it was marred by the chaotic brawl following the fight.

This moment which Khabib shared, however, had nothing to mar it. The Dagestani Fighter gifted his grandfather his two UFC Championship Belts and took a picture of the moment. He shared it on Instagram with the caption, “One of the best days of my life.”
While the future of the belt and Khabib’s next fight is yet to be decided, this particular moment was free from any and all controversy and is one of the more pure moments in UFC recently.
