The recent controversy surrounding UFC betting has resulted in the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) slapping a complete ban on any type of wager on the promotion’s fights.

There have been multiple concerns over UFC wagers in the past, with the most recent UFC Vegas 64 featherweight fight between Darrick Minner and Shayilan Nuerdanbieke on 5th November raising suspicions.

The odds before the fight started off with Minner’s favour but slowly shifted towards Nuerdanbieke as the fight date neared closer. It was rumoured that Minner, who suffered a 67-second TKO loss, carried an undisclosed injury into the fight.

While the promotion’s officials have dismissed any kind of malpractice on the part of the fighters or their teams, Minner is expected to face heavy sanctioning from state officials in the days to come.

“The Standards exist to protect the betting public and to provide the necessary safeguards against odds manipulation, match-fixing and other integrity issues,” read an official statement from AGCO Registar and CEO Tom Mungham.

“This is not a decision we take lightly, knowing the popularity of UFC events in Ontario’s sports books. However, the risks of insider betting on event and wagering integrity should be highly concerning to all. It certainly is to us. We will continue to work with gaming operators, the OLG, iGaming Ontario and UFC to ensure that wagering on UFC events meets the AGCO’s Standards,” Mungham added. [H/T MMA Fighting]

James Krause, the former UFC welterweight who currently trains Minner, has also come under scrutiny from New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. The state has now banned placing wagers on any fight involving Krause as a coach, trainer, promotor or fighter.”

“This applies to UFC matches and any other sporting events [Krause] may be involved in,” added the bulletin to New Jersey sportsbooks, as per ESPN.

Krause, who used to run gambling advice channels on Discord, has shut them down and following the Minner vs. Nuerdanbieke controversy, was even prevented from being at Minner’s corner at UFC Vegas 65 on 19th Nov.
