Charles Oliveira vs. Islam Makhachev, the main event at the upcoming UFC 280 has become one of the most anticipated fights of the year and while the MMA world envisions how the fight can turn out, rising lightweight Paddy Pimblett has his own prediction about the title fight.
Paddy Pimblett says Charles Oliveira will finish Islam Makhachev within third round
Back in May, Charles Oliveira didn’t lose his Lightweight belt in the Octagon, but on the scale, as the Brazilian was stripped from the title after missing weight ahead of his UFC 274 fight against Justin Gaethje. “Do Bronx” eventually went onto win via first-round submission, securing an immediate title shot and was pitted against the rising star of the division, Islam Makhachev.
The fight has become very exciting for two reasons- Oliveira has the chance to get on his second 155-pound title reign, while Makhachev, who recently vowed to bring the lightweight belt back to Dagestan, has earned his first title shot in the UFC.
At UFC San Diego this weekend, Paddy Pimblett made his prediction for Oliveira vs. Makhachev and stated that he is banking on Oliveira, who has faced much tougher challenge in his career, to finish the fight within three rounds.
“It’s gonna be a big fight, but I think Charles is gonna have too much for him. I think Charles will finish him, in like 3, something like that. He’s [been] through a much higher caliber of opponents, [comepted against a] lot more dangerous fighters, and he’s come through the other side. And I just think he’s got too many tools in his arsenal for Islam to deal with,” said Pimblett.
“The Baddy” himself is 3-0 in the UFC, having marked his latest win over Jordan Leavitt via 2nd round submission at UFC London last month and revealed that since the fight, he is back to weighing 200 pounds.
“About 200,” said the Liverpudlian, while addressing his concering weight cuts, “When I’m a little bit older, once I start fighting ranked opponents… I’ll keep me weight down, but for now, I’m enjoying putting a little bit of chill pill bro.” [H/T Sportskeeda]
