UFC flyweight and highly renowned Paige VanZant recently revealed that she had signed with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC).
UFC President Dana White had encouraged VanZant to test free agency after her loss at UFC 251 last month. Hence her leaving the UFC was not a big surprise. However, her joining BKFC, came as a surprise throughout the MMA community as she was always stereotyped as someone having a pretty face.
Speaking in an interview, VanZant addressed the issue. The former UFC flyweight claimed fighting and its perks have always been a part of life since she started the sport. (via MMAJunkie):
“If all of us chose jobs based on what we looked like, we probably wouldn’t be doing what we love to do,” VanZant said. “It’s just not necessarily that’s even a thought for me. I got into MMA when I was about 15 years old, and not once did I think I might not look good in a few years.”
VanZant looking forward to a ‘whole new opportunity’!
VanZant rather claimed she is looking forward to this next chapter of her life and views it as an ‘opportunity’.
“I looked at the organization, saw what they stood for,” said VanZant, who also hopes to do TV work for the promotion. “In my MMA career, I was very accomplished. I was in the UFC for almost 6 years, and now I feel like it’s the perfect opportunity to open that next chapter. It’s not necessarily a move backward for me. It’s a move laterally. It’s a whole new obstacle. It’s a whole new opportunity. That’s what really excites me.”
VanZant done with MMA?
Talking about her MMA career couple of weeks ago, VanZant does not want to rule out the possibility of a potential return in the future.
“I DON’T KNOW THAT I AM DONE WITH MMA,” VANZANT SAID. “I KNOW MOMENTARILY I AM, I STILL HAVE A HUGE PASSION FOR MMA, AND I JUST RECENTLY RELOCATED TO FLORIDA TO TRAIN WITH AMERICAN TOP TEAM. OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE ONE OF THE BEST MMA GYMS IN THE WORLD. RIGHT NOW, MY SOLE FOCUS IS BOXING, BUT IN A FEW YEARS I COULD GO BACK TO MMA, OR I COULD JUST BE MAKING SO MUCH DOING THIS BARE-KNUCKLE BOXING THAT I DON’T DO ANYTHING ELSE.”
