The PFL declared that Patchy Mix, the bantamweight champion, was no longer with them.

Mix defeated Sergio Pettis via submission to capture the Bellator bantamweight title in 2023, and he has since successfully defended it once. Mix, however, only got into one bout following the PFL-Bellator merger, and he took to social media to vent his dissatisfaction at the lack of fights.

The PFL shared on social media on Tuesday that Mix and the promotion have decided to split ways and not renew his contract.

“Professional Fighters League and Patchy Mix have mutually agreed to not extend his contract. We both decided this is the best course of action for PFL and him. Patchy is a fantastic fighter, and we wish him well. PFL is excited to crown our next 135lbs champion in the PFL world tournament,” the statement read.

Frustrated by the paucity of battles, Mix has been advocating for his release, which the PFL has finally approved. It’s unclear when Mix will really be able to sign with any promotion or if he will become a free agent with immediate effect.

However, many fans hope Patchy Mix will join the UFC and bring another competitor to the already competitive division.

Patchy Mix claims to be the world’s top bantamweight

In addition to promoting a fight, Patchy Mix has been claiming to be the world’s best bantamweight.

Former Bellator bantamweight champion Mix believed his record of work was self-evident.

“I did all of this in 11 months. This was one of best Grand Prix runs in history of the promotion. Since then only fought once in the last 17 months. Although my momentum has been slowed I’ve been training like I’ve been in camp for close to a year now. I’ll show my improvements… I’m the best in the world at 135,” Mix wrote on X.

As a pro, Patchy Mix is 20-1. He is defending his championship for the first time after defeating Magomed Magomedov via split decision. After defeating Raufeon Stots via knockout to earn the interim title, he defeated Sergio Pettis via submission to win the undisputed title. Throughout his career, he also boasts noteworthy victories over Tony Gravely, Andre Ewell, James Gallagher, and Kyoji Horiguchi.
