Current Bellator Featherweight and Lightweight champion Patricio Pitbull say he would easily defeat UFC Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and it would be a massacre.
Bellator 255: “Pitbull vs. Sanchez 2” takes place later this week (Fri., April 2, 2021) at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. A rematch headlines the first Bellator MMA card on Showtime as “champ champ” Patricio Freire (31-4) faces Emmanuel Sanchez (20-4) in a Featherweight Grand Prix elimination match.
Patricio has always been vocal about fighting in cross-promotional events and face an elite UFC fighter and prove that Bellator is no less than UFC. He has always targeted UFC fighters especially his counterparts from the UFC’s featherweight division.
Patricio Pitbull wants to fight UFC featherweights
Pitbull (31-4) is one of the best fighters currently signed to Bellator and is unbeaten in his last six fights. The Brazilian is the last man to defeat Michael Chandler, who will fight for the vacant UFC lightweight title next month against Charles Oliveira.
“My biggest desire and everyone knows this is to have a cross-promotional fight between Bellator and UFC,” Pitbull told BJPenn.com. “That is unlikely to happen, though.”
Although Patricio Pitbull doesn’t believe a fight against Alex Volkanovski will happen, he knows how it would play out. Despite the fact the Aussie is unbeaten in the UFC and is very well-rounded, the Brazilian believes he matches up well with the champ.
In the fight, Patricio Pitbull says he is better everywhere than Volkanovski and would finish him however he wants.
“It would be a massacre. Volkanovski is good at things, but he is not great at anything. He doesn’t have good footwork or striking, he doesn’t finish anyone, and he stalls a lot,” Pitbull said. “That won’t work with me, I will catch him and I will hurt him and finish him. The only reason why he accepted my challenge on Twitter is that he knows Dana wouldn’t do it. If we fought I would finish him, I would embarrass him.”
A few months back Patricio said he would be willing to fight any reputable opponent that is in the “best in the world” conversation, “Pitbull” specifically mentioned former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway (22-6 MMA, 18-6 UFC) as a fight that interests him.
“(The future) belongs to God,” Freire said. “We’ll see what’s next. Maybe Max Holloway gets tired of making pennies in the UFC and comes to Bellator so we can make a huge stadium show in Hawaii. We could see a change from the top guys from the UFC (coming) to Bellator.
“If they don’t think there is money here, that’s a lie. Bellator would be willing to pay for those who deserve it. We will see what the future reserves – where I’ll be at, where they’ll be at, and what Bellator will be willing to do. But I don’t have any worries. I know it’s going to do something good.”
