There has been much conversation regarding the future of Paulo Costa in the UFC, but as per the latest happenings, the Brazilian is staying with the top dog promotion, courtesy of a new four fight deal.

Costa has been one of the several UFC fighters who have been vocal about their displeasure regarding their contracts. Even when the promotion announced his UFC 284 clash against Robert Whittaker, the former Middleweight title contender stated that he would not be fighting without a new deal and shortly afterwards, revealed that he was testing free agency.

All that being said, “Borrachinha” has now nodded to a brand new contract in the promotion that will have him four Outings in the Octagon.

“I haven’t signed the contract yet but we have reached a deal with the UFC regarding the pay,” revealed Costa to PVT. “It wasn’t easy, there was a lot of hard work, and I have to highlight Tamara’s brilliant work here.”

Paulo Costa ready to face both Strickland and Chimaev in 2023

Once he inks the new contract, Paulo Costa will be in the talks for his next fight, which the fighter himself reveals could be against either Sean Strickland or Khamzat Chimaev, as he claims the UFC has already offered him the options for May and October respectively, but Costa is up for both fights this year.

“I want that, too,” said Costa about of facing both Strickland and Chimaev back to back this year. “[The UFC] wants to make sure this Chimaev fight happen at all costs, but I want to make both happen. We’ll see.” [H/T MMA Fighting]

In August last year, Costa ended his two fight losing streak against Israel Adesanya and Marvin Vettori, courtesy of a unanimous decision win over Luke Rockhold at UFC 278 in Salt Lake City. Prior to that, the Brazilian had marked wins over the likes of Uriah Hall and Yoel Romero.
