Top UFC middleweight contender Paulo Costa may be out of the Octagon for next few months, it hasn’t stopped him from calling out his rival Israel Adesanya.

Costa was supposed to fight Israel Adesanya in early 2020, but the Brazilian had to undergo an arm surgery following an injury that will keep him out of the Octagon for at least eight months.

In an interview with Combate, the Brazilian revealed that he wants to fight the newly crowned UFC middleweight champion and even went on to say that he is an easier match-up than Uriah Hall. In the meantime, Israel Adesanya is highly likely to fight Yoel Romero at UFC 248 in March.

Paulo Costa: Yoel Romero beats Israel Adesanya

Adesanya makes no difference to me, he’s easier than Uriah Hall. I have no career goals of fighting him, I just want to because he is a loudmouth. I want to beat him up just because of that, it’s personal. When it comes to sports merit, I think Romero would be harder than Adesanya. There is no comparison. If Romero wins, it will mean more to me professionally. I want to knock him out. If I beat Romero, then I’ll want to fight Adesanya, too.” Costa said.

Paulo Costa defeated Yoel Romero in his last fight at UFC 241 and prior to that, he knocked out Uriah Hall in the second round at UFC 226.

Israel Adesanya is however extremely confident of beating Costa if they fought. Last month he appeared on the Ariel Helwani Show, where he revealed that a fight with the Brazilian will turn out to be the exact same way as Conor McGregor vs Jose Aldo.

You know one thing that fight reminded me of? McGregor-Aldo,” Adesanya said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.

It will happen. I know how to push his buttons. He’s such a meathead, I can push his buttons and make him do what I want him to do. Counter him,” Adesanya said. “People were always used to my linear attacks, they didn’t know about my lateral attacks. My hooks. They thought when I started countering Rob, they forget that’s what I first started doing when I started kickboxing. I was a counter striker. I went back to my roots, and I was just hitting from all angles. Like literally hitting him from all angles. Even when I was in ‘The Matrix’, caught him with an uppercut. So Paula is a guy, he’s a really aggressive bull, but I can be a matador.” Adesanya concluded. (H/T – BJPenn.com)
