Paulo Costa is not happy with the UFC, and continues to make it clear that his relationship with the promotion is soon nearing its end.
‘Borrachinha’ returned to winning ways with a unanimous decision win over Luke Rockhold at UFC 278 back in August, which ended his two-fight losing streak. The former 185-pound title challenger, currently ranked 6th in the division, has one fight left in his current contract with the UFC.
However, the relationship between Costa and the organization has not been good in recent years. The Brazilian has continued to state that he’s unsatisfied with the promotion, and in a recent tweet, suggested that he will be out of the company once he exhausts the current deal with one fight to go.
Just 1 fight to get free from UFC contract

Additionally, Costa also revealed that the UFC had offered him a six fight contract renewal, which he also turned down.
so I politely declined. they offer a 6-fight deal, but I'm not interested in a multi-fight deal.

Following his win over Rockhold in August, Costa appeared on The MMA Hour where he had also mentioned his keenness for going into free agency.
“I have one more, I didn’t know, I thought this was the last one but I have one more. I’m looking forward to being a free agent for sure, I will not lie to you. I’d (thought) this was the last one of this contract,” Costa said back then.
“I really believe it’s not just for me, it’s for everybody. I’m on a high, high level, fighting the best of this division and my contract is too old. When I fought Marvin Vettori, I got $35,000. $35,000. For this one was a couple more, a couple more, I got the win bonus, and because when I fought Marvin Vettori, I got a 20% reduction… I need to talk with them and see. I’m not rushing up to see, but we need to see, we need to figure it out. I’m not happy with the current contract, of course,” he added. [H/T BJPenn.com]
Not signing a new contract would in turn jeopardize Costa’s announced upcoming fight against Robert Whittaker at UFC 284. However, being one of the biggest names in the sport, Costa would still be pursued as a free agent, with the fighter himself mentioning a future move into boxing.
