How did Pawan Maan start his MMA career?

Pawan, who began his fighting career as a boxer and later moved on to the more lucrative MMA circuit was one of the breakout stars in Indian MMA who was fought multiple champions in the Super Fight League. He was the former Super Fight League welterweight and lightweight champion. The 29-year-old Delhi-based fighter took up boxing when he was 14. He fared decently but lost hope after failing to break into the top level. Disappointed, he decided to pursue a steadier job with the Central Reserve Police Force, but within three months he resigned as he felt he needed to do something different and despite pressure from his family to continue his job he decided he wanted to get into combat sports.

Pawan also worked as a fitness instructor at a gym-chain in Delhi and after few years into a training career. he witnessed his peer Rajinder Singh Meena break into MMA which inspire him. He thought if Rajinder can do it why can’t I, Pawan was more than ready to take the plunge, but there was one huge hindrance, he didn’t possess the skills for MMA as he had started his career with boxing. People saw his potential and he soon he found acceptance and luckily for him , one of his trainees, a doctor by profession, was a practitioner of jiu-jitsu. He honed his MMA skills and started his fighting career.

He fought his first professional MMA fight against Srikant Sekhar which he won by a thunderous knockout in 2012. Pawan Maan is known for his brutal punching power. A fan favourite fighter, Pawan Maan is known to put up exciting fights with every win of his MMA career ending in a finish by KO/TKO or submissions.

A well-rounded fighter most people think of Pawan Maan as a purely stand up fighter as he prefers knocking people out but he has 3 submissions finishes to his name which means almost 50 percent of his victories have come by submission. A underrated grappler with great submission skills, he showed his improved ground game against Jason in MFN 4 where Singh was pressing to take the fight to the ground countered with guillotine attempts. He got out of some dangerous position in that fight and landed some heavy ground and pound on Jason.

Pawan Maan will be fighting in the main event at Matrix Fight Night 5 against Sandeep Dahiya in Dubai. The MMA India Show wishes him all the best for his upcoming fight
