UFC lightweight fighter Dustin Poirier has proposed an option to Conor Mcgregor that their trilogy fight at UFC 264 could take place at 170 pounds weight category.

The whole scenario between Poirier and Mcgregor fighting at 170 started after UFC 261. McGregor, who is scheduled to fight Dustin Poirier in a trilogy bout at UFC 264 on July 10, reacted to Usman’s knockout of Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261, with a social media post on Sunday morning.

Usman (19-1 MMA, 14-0 UFC) and McGregor (22-5 MMA, 10-3 UFC) have had some words for each other in the past. “The Nigerian Nightmare” has warned the Irishman on multiple occasions that a fight between them would be very ugly for McGregor, but that hasn’t got him to back down.

McGregor poked fun at Usman before UFC 261 when Usman said in an interview that fighting him is like “Green Panty Night,” which is similar to McGregor’s famous “Red Panty Night” quote. He still seems to think Usman is copying his style, and he wants to settle the score in the octagon (via Instagram):

“Usman even copying my shots now. Am I to fight this guy at some stage? I think so. Can’t be copying my words and my shots and not get a smack for it.
I like 170. It’s mine soon.”

“I’m a block at 170 guys. Give me till end of year at this 155 weight. I’ll get the strap and then I’ll go up again. After green fungus panties hahaha “cos any one of these fools can get it” – usman”

Dustin Poirier responds to Conor Mcgregor

McGregor’s upcoming trilogy fight with Poirier is to be contested at lightweight. “The Notorious” has fought three times under the welterweight banner in the UFC before, though, splitting results with Nate Diaz and getting a win over Donald Cerrone.

After seeing what McGregor wrote on his Twitter, Poirier took to his social media and responded by suggesting that their third fight take place in the welterweight division.

“Let’s do it at 170lbs. 3 fights 3 different weight classes”

Conor immediately responded to that tweet by rejecting the offer.

Poirier and McGregor have fought twice in the past. The first time these two met was at UFC 178 in September 2014, and McGregor won that fight via first-round knockout at 145lbs. The two rivals then rematched in January 2021 at UFC 257, and this time Poirier won the fight by knockout in a lightweight bout. The two are now scheduled to meet at UFC 264 on July 10 in what is likely a No. 1 contender bout in the UFC lightweight division.

If somehow the fight does happen at welterweight it would be the first time in the UFC that 2 fighters have fought each other three times at three different weight classes. The chances for that to happen are very low but in the MMA world, you never know.
