Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping has had his fair share of slobber knockers. “The Count” has been in some of the most gruelling bouts in the division’s history and is truly a legend of the sport. However, he is now looking to retire this year. Bisping was widely expected to fight his good friend Rashad Evans in London. However, the fight failed to materialise. Evans has now revealed that Bisping hasn’t had a fight yet because he is currently involved in a contract issue with with the UFC.

Bisping is currently thirty-eight years old and has lost his last two fights. He lost his belt to Georges St-Pierre via a technical submission due to a rear-naked choke at UFC 217 and was then defeated by Kelvin Gastelum via knock-out at UFC Fight Night 122. The Mancunian apparently has his heart set in having his last bout in London.

Evans and Bisping are good friends in real life and are also co-pundits and experts for Fox Sports: UFC. Evans was recently a guest on The MMA Hour and revealed the reasons why the fight against Bisping failed to happen. He also further denied reports about another match against Bisping being set-up and revealed that the fight will potentially never happen now. Here’s what he had to say:

“I did get the call, my manager called me — they worked it out. At first I didn’t want to even fight Bisping, but he asked to fight me. I was kind of perplexed by that, but then I thought maybe he just wants to scrap with his old friend one last time. I didn’t get any bad feelings about my friend wanting to fight me or someone who I thought was my friend trying to fight me, I was just like, ‘Ok, cool’.

I started training and getting ready for the fight, but then I didn’t hear anything back about a contract. Finally, I got a contract, but that was on the day that I learned that Bisping wasn’t going to take the fight. He wasn’t going to do the fight because he was having some kind of contract problems with the UFC.

I don’t think the fight will happen now. I think that was fight that made sense to him at that moment. I don’t think it’s something that’s going to make sense for him. It may appeal to him, it may not. I really don’t know, but I’m not going to sit around and wait for it. I’ll just fight whoever and see what comes next. ”
