UFC: Reason why Daniel Cormier feels he’s above Jon Jones in the P4P rankings

The UFC pound-for-pound rankings have been fluctuating a lot since last few months.

With current flyweight champion Henry Cejudo defeating former P4P #1 Demetrious Johnson and then absolutely decapitating P4P #5 ranked and current bantamweight champ T.J. Dillashaw in successive fights had him take huge leaps in the rankings surpassing even the likes of Conor McGregor. The top spot however remains the same, owned by former double champ Daniel Cormier.

That being said another addition to the rankings being the return of former highly ranked Jon ‘Bones’ Jones. Jones defeated Alexander Gustafsson for the vacant light heavyweight title in his much anticipated return to clinch #2 spot in the rankings, a spot below rival Cormier. Speaking with UFC. com, Cormier addressed the issue.

“For what I’ve done, winning the heavyweight title, everything was so tied to him [Jones] initially that me getting the heavyweight title was something so completely separate, especially being that I was undefeated in the weight class prior,” Cormier told UFC. com“Going up into a weight that was always thought to be my weight class, winning the UFC title, it helped me.

“I think for Jones to truly get back everything that he’s lost, it would be good for him and I to fight again. For me, I’ve established my career outside of him. He’s done things outside of me, too, but for him, it would be good if he got to fight me again.”

Jones will try to clinch the number one spot by defeating contender Anthony Smith at UFC 235 on March 2.
