On March 10th, 2019, a little over a week after the highly-spoken of UFC 235 event, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto confirmed reports on a possible matchup between Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone and Stockton’s very own, Nate Diaz. Following his recent technical-knockout victory against Alexander Hernandez at UFC Fight Night 143, Cerrone has been on the lookout for a crack at the top five contenders in the lightweight division, predominantly ‘The Notorious,’ Conor McGregor.
Since the infamous UFC 229 post-fight melee between the collective camps of Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov, the suspensions levied on both fighters has handicapped the UFC’s lightweight division. With Max Holloway moving up to lightweight to run it back a second time with Dustin Poirier, the UFC is currently on a hunt for available 155-ers to fill up the year’s upcoming fight cards.
This past Sunday, according to reports by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Cowboy Cerrone confessed to have received confirmation from Nick Diaz, for an epic rematch. The duo squared-off in a lightweight contest back in 2011 at UFC 141, where Diaz came to be the aggressor of the fight by bagging a dominant five-round unanimous decision victory. Unfortunately, since his previous defeat at UFC 202 against Conor McGregor, the Stockton superstar, Nate Diaz, has been gravely inactive in the sport.
During a recent post-event interview with UFC broadcaster Megan Olivi, president of the UFC Dana White was seen dousing the fire on the probability of a Nate Diaz comeback. However, with Bret Okamoto’s recent twitter report embodying a supposed conversation between Diaz and Cerrone, the possibilities of a highly-anticipated rematch, seem virtually endless.
