Yusuff (13-5 MMA) is hoping to end a losing streak of two fights going into tonight’s clash. In his last two Octagon outings, “Super” has suffered defeats to Edson Barboza and Diego Lopes. The Nigerian star had already defeated Don Shainis and Alex Caceres before those losses.
In the meanwhile, Mairon Santos (16-1 MMA) defeated Francis Marshall via split decision at the most recent UFC 313 event in March. Since competing under the LFA banner in 2022, “The Legend” has never experienced loss.
In the first round of this lightweight bout at UFC Vegas 106, Santos emerges victorious. In response, Soqiq Yusuff offers one of his own. Santos makes a solid right after stepping in with a left hand. Both men slide and fall as the warriors exchange kicks. Both of them immediately restart and reset. The aim of Sodiq Yusuff is a takedown. Mairon Santos lands a great elbow in defense. Round one concludes with the sound of the horn.
When the second round starts, Santos kicks off right away once more. With a pair of his own, Yusuff fires back. Santos answers with a high kick that seems to momentarily shock Yusuff. Santos tries to throw again, but it gets blocked. Yusuff tries to force the play, but Mairon Santos’ counters keep him looking strong. It was a good move to end the second frame.
Sodiq Yusuff enters the third and final round with a strong stance. This is perhaps where he needs a finish. A strong left hand, followed by another from “Super.” Santos checks his attempt with a low kick and delivers a strong counterpunch. Mairon appears to be quite calm in there tonight. Yusuff keeps moving forward. He kicks low after landing a chipped standing elbow. Mairon Santos keeps hitting back, first with a jab and then with another low kick. Both males are over the top with their right hands. Yusuff has a terrific low kick on the outside. Santos responds by offering one of his own. The fight has two minutes left. Santos pushes Yusuff against the cage and makes the clinch. Before Sodiq escapes, he takes a few knees and quick shots. Santos is back on the range and is still having success. His shots tonight have been accurate. We will proceed to the judges’ scorecards after the horn sounds.
