Indian MMA star Ritu Phogat to fight China’s Meng Bo at ONE Championship on May 28

Indian MMA star Ritu Phogat is all set to fight China’s Meng Bo at Women’s atomweight Grand Prix tournament at ONE Championship in May.

The fight will take place at Singapore Indoor Stadium on May 28. The event is billed as ONE: Empower and it will feature an all women’s MMA fight card.

The eight-woman tournament will begin with the quarterfinal round on 28 May and conclude sometime later this year. The winner, of course, will face ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee in November.

Ritu Phogat vs Meng Bo

The fighters that will participate in the strawweight grand Prix tournament are Meng Bo of China, Seo Hee Ham of South Korea, Stamp Fairtex of Thailand, Alyona Rassohyna of Ukraine, Alyse Anderson of the United States, Itsuki Hirata of Japan, Ritu Phogat of India and Denice Zamboanga of the Philippines.

Ritu Phogat will have a tough challenge in the Grand Prix tournament, but the Haryana native has been training hard and is ready to take on any challenge.

In her last fight at ONE: BIG BANG last year, Ritu Phogat starched Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres via first-round TKO.

  • Strawweight – 125lbs: (C)Xiong JingNan vs. Michelle Nicolini
  • Atomweight – 115lbs: Denice Zamboanga vs. Seo Hee Ham
  • Atomweight: Alyona Rassokhina vs. Stamp Fairtex
  • Atomweight: Meng Bo vs. Ritu Phogat
  • Atomweight: Itsuki Hirata vs. Alyse Anderson

Ritu Phogat confident of becoming the first-ever Indian World Champion in MMA history

The group includes #1-ranked Denice “The Menace” Zamboanga, #2-ranked Meng Bo, former two-sport ONE World Champion and #5-ranked Stamp Fairtex, undefeated Itsuki “Strong Heart Fighter” Hirata, previous newcomer Alyona Rassohyna, and finally, debutants Alyse Anderson and Seo Hee Ham.

Here it is,” Phogat said in an Instagram post, “the first Indian woman to enter the World Championship Grand Prix and my first step towards my goal of becoming [the] first-ever Indian World Champion in MMA history.”

Although the tournament brackets haven’t yet been decided, anyone who Phogat is paired within the quarterfinals will present a challenge to the Indian wrestling icon.
