When Indian Wrestling Champion Ritu Phogat stepped inside the ONE Championship Circle to face #2-ranked atomweight Meng Bo at ONE: EMPOWER last Friday, 3 September, she planned on shutting the mouths of all her naysayers. However, her performance dropped their jaws.

Phogat defeated Meng by unanimous decision in the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix quarterfinals. This came after “The Indian Tigress” was nearly floored and submitted in the first round.

I am happy with this win. It doesn’t matter what my opponent said before the match because I never take it negatively. I believe in facing these challenges and answering them inside the Circle. I give my 110 percent and my victory ensures that they get their answers,” Phogat said.

Ritu Phogat says she has to improve more

Having knocked off the #2-ranked atomweight from the tournament, and with #1-ranked Denice “Lycan Queen” Zamboanga eliminated as well, one might think the hardest work is behind Phogat – but she disagrees.

I still have to improve in lots of things because I will face tougher challenges in the upcoming matches. I must make myself better, so I will be training even harder than before,” she said.

And Ritu Phogat isn’t sitting back and admiring her work. Even though she’s already defeated a top-five ranked contender, she’s not letting the performance get in the way of what’s most important to her.

It doesn’t matter to me much, but I want to face the best fighters in the atomweight division. I don’t care what my ranking is. I consider myself to be the best, and I will prove to the world that I am the best fighter in the atomweight division,” Phogat said.

That being said, Ritu Phogat knows that she can’t get to the top of the division alone. The help she receives from her family, her team at Evolve MMA, and her compatriots is essential to the process.

I am nothing without your support,” Ritu Phogat added. “Keep showering me with your love, and I will surely win the World Title for India.”

In the meantime, catch all the action at ONE: REVOLUTION on 24 September live and for free on the ONE Super App.
