Indian Star Ritu Phogat will return to the cage in December against Jomary Torres. ONE Championship today announced ONE: BIG BANG on December 4.
Rising star Ritu “The Indian Tigress” Phogat returns to action against the Philippines’ Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres at ONE: BIG BANG on 4 December. She put on a clinic last month in her fight against Nou Srey Pov at ONE Championship: Inside the Matrix, which took place in Singapore improving her record to 3-0.
Reigning ONE Light Heavyweight Kickboxing World Champion Roman Kryklia of Ukraine defends his World Title against Murat “The Butcher” Aygun of Turkey and the Netherlands. #3-ranked featherweight contender Koyomi Matsushima of Japan takes on undefeated #5-ranked featherweight contender Garry “The Lion Killer” Tonon of the United States.
Ritu Phogat is Ready for Torres
Ritu Phogat is by far the biggest name in the Indian MMA circle that can easily appeal to the casual audience. She hails from a Wrestling royalty and she is the daughter of legendary wrestling coach Mahavir Singh Phogat. Ritu Phogat has won all of her three fights at ONE Championship and the surging Indian star is quickly emerging as the top contender in the division.
Her opponent Jomary Torres has a professional record of 4-4-0 and is coming off of a submission loss to Hayatun Jihin Radzuan at ONE Championship: Masters of Destiny in July 2019. She is currently riding on a four-fight losing streak, having lost to Hayatun, Heqin Lin (Submission loss), Mei Yamaguchi (Unanimous decision loss), and Priscilla Hertati Lumban Gaol (Unanimous decision).
While Ritu trains out of EVOLVE MMA gym in Singapore, she also takes the advice of her father and legendary wrestler and coach Mahavir Singh Phogat.
“My father always tells me whatever I have to do inside the cage, I have to do by myself and not depend on the moves my opponent pulls inside the cage,” Ritu Phogat said in an interview with Parvin Dabas of The MMA India Show.
“My father tells me to constantly apply pressure on my opponents so that they’re tired mentally and that’s exactly what I did in my fight against Nou. I then followed it up with my takedown and combinations which is my favorite move.”
While Mahavir Singh Phogat is happy with the performance her daughter put inside the cage, Ritu told The MMA India Show that her father will be happier once she wins the world title.
“My father was happy, but he will be happier when I win the world title for my country. He said that this is nothing, as I progress forward in my MMA career, I will be fighting tougher opponents and for that, I need to keep training hard,” Ritu Phogat concluded.
