Former UFC Middleweight champion Robert Whittaker and current middleweight champion Israel Adesanya have reignited their feud as it seems like they will be facing each other for the second time very soon.

Israel Adesanya happy to see Robert Whittaker resolve recent issues

Robert Whittaker was the undisputed champion when he was scheduled to face the rising star Israel Adesanya. Since Robert’s move to middleweight he has looked amazing.

Israel Adesanya knocks out Robert Whittaker to unify UFC title

In 2018 it was announced that Whittaker’s next middleweight title defense would be against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 234. However, Whittaker pulled out of the event a few hours beforehand after he was forced to undergo emergency dual surgery immediately, due to an abdominal hernia of the intestine and a twisted and collapsed bowel. Whittaker then went on to fight Israel Adesanya at UFC 243. He lost the match and the championship via second-round knockout. It was a one-sided win for Adesanya who dominated Robert in every exchange they had that night.

Since that night they had some sort of competitive feud between them. Adesanya went on to defend his title against Romero and Costa. He then tried to capture the second belt at light-heavyweight against Champ Jan Blachowicz, but failed in that attempt. Robert has fought his way back to the top by being the no.1 contender since he lost the belt and hasn’t lost a fight since. He has defeated Kelvin Gastelum, Jared Canonnier, and Darren Till in his path to get shot at the title.

Robert Whittaker on Israel Adesanya’s performance at UFC 263

Adesanya recently rematched Marvin Vettori for the UFC Middleweight Championship on June 12, 2021, headlining UFC 263. He won the fight via unanimous decision. They first fought in 2018 where Adesanya won via decsion with slightest of margin.

Now it seems fair that Israel Adesanya faces Robert Whittaker next. Right after the fight at UFC 263, he then turned his attention to his next potential challenge and called for a rematch against Robert Whittaker, the man he took the title from in 2019.

Whittaker commented on Adesanya’s recent win over Marvin Vettori where he won a lopsided unanimous decision following a five round fight at UFC 263.

Watching that fight against Vettori, you can see Adesanya is not untouchable,” Whittaker said when speaking to the Daily Telegraph. “It reinforced the fact that he’s very human. Very touchable. I actually thought his performance was average. Not average in the context of being bad but he never did anything more than what he had to do. He didn’t do anything flashy. He didn’t do anything more than necessary, which is a good approach.

“But it certainly doesn’t put you in the realm of Gods. He’s definitely not a God. He’s a very good fighter, sure but he’s not as good as he thinks he is.”

The chmapion Israel didn’t waste anytime to get back to Robert.

“If I’m ‘not as good as I think I am,’ then what does that make you,” Adesanya said on Instagram.

Adesanya slammed Whittaker with the message “happy father’s day, son” and then posted another post on Twitter.

“I might not be a god to you but I baptized you,” Adesanya wrote.
