The former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker has largely been inactive for long spells ever since he won the belt back in 2017. After losing it earlier this year in front of his home crowd in Australia via a brutal knockout to Israel Adesanya, Whittaker has again since been out of commission. However, the rumour mills have started churning again and Whittaker might be fighting soon.

Whittaker was supposed to be on a speaking tour, but he urgently had to cancel his tour plans and return back to training. His management team even gave out a statement that an exciting opportunity had arisen. They also revealed that the former champion’s next opponent will soon be announced. Here’s what his management team stated:

An exciting opportunity has arisen that requires Rob to return to the training immediately. Next fight opponent and news will be announced soon.

It should also be noted that Adesanya had recently teased that he is discussing his next fight with the UFC and that his next opponent is not Paulo Costa nor Jon Jones which had led many to believe that it might be Yoel Romero. However, now it can also certainly be a potential rematch with Whittaker. However, nothing is certain as of now.
