UFC middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker, has recently been discharged from the hospital on Tuesday after surgery. After experiencing severe discomfort on the night of the UFC 234 weigh-ins, Whittaker was forced to pull out of his championship bout against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 234. The middleweight champion suffered from what was discovered to be an internal hernia and a collapsed bowel. Requiring immediate medical attention, Whittaker was rushed to the hospital by family and friends, a night before his highly-anticipated title defense.

On Tuesday, ESPN’s Ariel Helwani confirmed that Robert Whittaker was well and had been released from the hospital. As per manager Titus Day, Whittaker is likely to make a return to the Octagon sometime between June and August. The middleweight division is presently in a fix with its number one and number two ranked contenders waiting desperately in line for a title opportunity. Kelvin Gastelum’s self-proclamation of being the middleweight champion has surfaced the news ever since Whittaker’s unfortunate exit from the card.

On the other hand, Israel Adesanya feels that Whittaker must be stripped of his title and expects the division to move on. A title fight between Gastelum and Adesanya seems like a viable option for the UFC, at the moment, given the extent of Whittaker’s medical hiatus.
