Former UFC and WWE star Ronda Rousey has issued a public apology for sharing a conspiracy video about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting over a decade ago. The tweet, which Rousey posted 11 years ago, has resurfaced, prompting her to address the issue head-on.
The Controversial Tweet
Back in 2012, Ronda Rousey shared a video that propagated a conspiracy theory suggesting the Sandy Hook shooting was staged. The tragic event, which occurred on December 14, 2012, in Newtown, Connecticut, resulted in the deaths of 26 people, including 20 children aged six and seven. The conspiracy theory claimed that the shooting was a hoax and that the grieving parents were actors.
Ronda Rousey’s Apology
Rousey took to social media to express her deep regret and remorse for her actions. In her statement, she admitted that sharing the video was the “single most regrettable decision” of her life. She explained that she was initially horrified by the truth of the event and, in her shock, clung to an alternative narrative.
“I didn’t even believe it, but was so horrified at the truth that I was grasping for an alternative fiction to cling to instead,” Rousey wrote. “I quickly realized my mistake and took it down, but the damage was done. By some miracle, it seemingly slipped under the media’s radar, and I was never asked about it, so I never spoke of it again”.
Reddit is beautifully brutal. I went 40 comments into @RondaRousey's ask me anything (AMA) and couldn't find a single question that is not about her Sandy Hook comments.

Acknowledging the Hurt
Ronda Rousey acknowledged the pain and suffering her actions may have caused to the victims’ families and the broader community. She stated, “I deserve to be hated, labeled, detested, resented, and worse for it. I deserve to lose out on every opportunity; I should have been canceled; I would have deserved it. I still do”.
In her apology, Rousey also warned against the dangers of falling into the “black hole of conspiracy bullsh*t,” urging others not to make the same mistake she did. She emphasized the importance of verifying information before sharing it and the potential harm that spreading false narratives can cause.
