After scoring his third straight finish in ONE Championship, “The Indian Notorious” Roshan Mainam is hoping for big things during the rest of 2021.
Roshan Mainam scored a first-round rear-naked choke victory over Aziz “The Krauser” Calim at ONE: FISTS OF FURY III last Friday, earning the fastest win of his young career in the process.
“I was able to implement my strategy for the match completely. My plan was to get him to the ground as soon as possible,” Roshan Mainam said.
“Calim started well with his striking, but I saw an opening to take him to the ground – and I was able to finish him.”
Roshan Mainam had expressed a desire to showcase his improved striking in the fight against Calim, but the grappling ace never had the chance to make it happen.
Of course, he was still happy to leave the Singapore Indoor Stadium with a victory.
“I was not disappointed,” Roshan Mainam said. “My strong suit is grappling, but I have improved in striking and I use it whenever it is required [in the future].”
Roshan Mainam wants to fight three more times in 2021
That means fans may get the chance to see “The Indian Notorious’” budding striking pedigree in his next fight. And if it was up to Mainam, he would stay as busy as possible over the next nine months.
“Although I can’t decide how many matches I will get, I would like to compete in three more before the end of this year,” he said.
Like any elite flyweight, the Indian star also has the division’s World Title on his mind, which could mean going through all-time great Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson to get the belt.
But first, “Mighty Mouse” will challenge ONE Flyweight World Champion Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes at “ONE on TNT I” on 8 April.
It will be a spectacle,” Mainam said of the upcoming title fight. “I think with his experience, DJ can win this, but this is MMA, and anything is possible.”
