After an impressive debut in November 2019, “The Indian Notorious” Roshan Mainam is set to make his sophomore ONE Championship appearance against a slick-striking Chinese star.

“The Indian Notorious” will take on Liu Peng Shuai to kick off the action at ONE: REIGN OF DYNASTIES this Friday, 9 October, and he’ll be plenty prepared for the massive moment.

I know that only worthy fighters and warriors get an opportunity in ONE Championship, so in no way, shape, or form will I underestimate my opponent or anyone else,” the 24-year-old said.

Over the past eleven months, Roshan Mainam has used his time wisely, soaking up as much information as he can while training at Evolve MMA in Singapore.

Even though we were in [COVID-19] lockdown, I kept myself busy with self-improvement and learning,” he said.

Roshan Mainam is hoping those self-improvements will push him to victory against the man who made a name for himself by winning the ONE Hefei Flyweight Tournament with two first-round finishes.

Additionally, the Indian athlete is hoping to display his all-around game.

I have a wrestling background, which has already improved a lot, along with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. And I have improved my striking leaps and bounds. I am more focused on myself, and I’ll display my new and improved skills,” he said.

Meanwhile, there will be more on the line for “The Indian Notorious” than just the win. He also wants to help grow mixed martial arts in a country that’s just starting to take hold of the all-encompassing sport.

With the blessing of everyone and my well-wishers, I work towards realizing a dream to have a World Champion from India on the world’s biggest stage,” Roshan Mainam said.

I am ready for battle, and India is in my heart when I fight, and in my smile when my hand is raised!

Catch Roshan Mainam in action this Friday at ONE: REIGN OF DYNASTIES on the ONE Super App, or on Hotstar or Star Sports Select at 6 p.m. India Standard Time (IST).
