Roshan Mainam is ready to battle Calim Aziz at ONE: Fists of Fury II.

ONE Championship recently announced the card for the second installment of its FISTS OF FURY event series, and along with a massive heavyweight showdown, a certain Indian submission specialist will make his return to the Circle.

ONE: FISTS OF FURY II will feature a main event clash between debuting Russian heavyweight Amir Aliakbari and “Mighty Warrior” Kang Ji Wong. But for Indian mixed martial arts fans, all eyes will be on the flyweight fight between Roshan Mainam and Aziz “The Krauser” Calim.

Mainam has torn through the flyweight division since joining the organization in November 2019, and on Friday, 5 March, he’ll look to add Calim’s name to the growing list of opponents who’ve succumbed to his grappling skills.

I am really excited for this match. I have been working hard since my last match, and I am ready for this challenge. I am geared up for a good performance,” Mainam said.

He’ll step into the Circle against a man who has his own knack for submissions. That includes a first-round submission of Adi Paryanto at ONE: ETERNAL GLORY.

Calim then fell to Ryuto Sawada, but Roshan Mainam isn’t counting out his Indonesian opponent.

I never take any fight lightly. Calim debuted in ONE Championship before me. He has represented his country in many fights before this. He is a tough opponent with lots of experience. I will try my best to give a great performance,” the Indian said.

He has a good understanding of both striking and the ground game. He has showcased good clinching, grappling, and ground game in his matches. He is a well-rounded opponent.”

Roshan Mainam plans to finish the fight early

However, Mainam’s strengths could also be Calim’s undoing. And the Indian submission specialist senses that opportunity.

He has lost some his matches by submission. I will try my best to finish him by either submission or striking,” Roshan Mainam said.

I will try to finish the match as soon as possible – in the first round.”

If he does manage to pull off the opening-round victory, it won’t be just a win for him – it will be a victory for India.

I would like to make my country proud this year. I am training with world-class fighters [at Evolve MMA] and the level of training is quite different and a notch above then the rest,” Roshan Mainam said.

I have trained hard and tried to take myself to the next level. I have improved in my last two matches and I would like to continue doing the same this year too.”

Catch Roshan Mainam clash with Calim at ONE: FISTS OF FURY II on Friday, 5 March, live and for free on the ONE Super App.
